From "CAST OF CHARACTERS" in the front of The Silver Chair: ...Jadis arrives in Narnia with Digory and Polly in The Magician's Nephew and has taken over the land as the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Completely evil, she is also very dangerous, even in The Silver Chair.Hmm, what are your thoughts on this? For a while I think I believed that they were different witches, but this contradicts that idea. I thought that when reading this last I saw a quote in the back of SC that made it sound like they were different people, I'll see if I can find it... Anyway, are you surprised by this, or am I the only one?

It's a different person, I'm sure! I never really imagined that they were the same... since Jadis dies in LWW. It doesn't sound at all like it is her in the Silver Chair, if only that she has a different personality... And, I just would have expected Aslan's reaction to be different if it was Jadis.
I don't know, I'm not saying that there isn't evidence that they are the one and the same, but all the same, I don't see that there is.... *ponders*

Yeah, I read that cast of characters thing and was like, oooh, she's back! yay! And then I read it. And she didn't read as Jadis AT ALL. But later in the book, they're talking about it...can't remember who, and they're talking about Jadis and the 100 yrs of winter, and then they say that she COULD have been the same. I don't think it comes RIGHT out stating that she was Jadis...rather confused. Man, I really wanted Jadis back! *nervous laughter*

Yes, I think there is maybe a "could have been" mentioned somewhere... *puzzled frown* She's a lot sweeter (I don't mean in a nice way) than Jadis, who is just more... regal?

I found the quote!
"And now they all saw what it meant; how a wicked Witch (doubtless the same kind as that White Witch who had brought the Great Winter on Narnia long ago) had contrived the whole thing...'And the lesson of it all is, your Highness,' said the oldest Dwarf, that those Northern Witches always mean the same thing, but in every age they have a different plan for getting it. *reads quote* Then, I definately don't think CS Lewis meant her to be the same person. He would have said something different if he did.
At any rate, Jadis is dead. I don't think that would really be reversible.

Thanks for digging up that quote, Luthien. I rest my case, it says it all.
