She held Rilian and the gnomes for many years. But it is so curious to me that she was so relatively easily killed once the truth was exposed! It seems that her great power was mostly in her deception. (a lie)
Just wondering what you think....

I don't know.... I think she only had power over those who believed her - and believed her power. It is once they stand up to her that they are able to kill her. It is when Puddleglum acknowledges that there is a Narnia and that she is lying, and stamps out her fire that they are able to stand up and fight her. However, I don't think she was easily killed. She came very close to winning over the children, Puddleglum and Rilian, and they came very close to giving in to her. And then as a snake she almost strangles Rilian!
So I would say that I think she was pretty powerful.

I agree with that, Herenya. But her most useful tool was definitely deception, which maybe has a more powerful influence on humans than true Narnians. Maybe she didn't realize that?

I think Puddleglum was more able to stand up to her than the others because he as a general rule doesn't believe that everything is good and happy. He's a pessimist, and I wonder if because of that he couldn't be sucked in by the 'story' the witch was trying to tell them. He also comes across as being resiliant as well. I guess her deceiving others gives her power, but I'm more inclined to think that she uses her power to back up her deception, than the other way round. Her deception is an end in many respects, rather than a means to an end. *doesn't think she's making coherent sense*
