I have heard so many different responses to the White Witch in the movie. And they're all on the major ends of the spectrum. Some people say that she was really scary, when others think she just wasn't scary at all.

I think that she was wonderful! While Andrew's Jadis was NOTHING like I imagined--what happened to the long, straight black hair?--she did a very good job and came out very well. I think that her coldness is very disturbing, as well as her inconsistency in her treatment of Edmund. Her outfits were a bit odd, but I liked the crown the shape of her castle. I also think they should have shown how afraid The White Witch was of Aslan--in the book, the simple mention of his name makes her recoil in fear. Overall, Tilda Swinton's performance was excellent and worked well with the plot.

I really liked Tilda as the White Witch. I thought she was just the right mix between tempting and fierce. I understood how Edmund could like her, but she also gave me chills when she shrieks after killing Aslan. My favourite moment? In Jadis's sledge when we first meet her, Edmund asks for more turkish delight, and she raises her voice. That little nose-wrinkle she does was awesome. I think Tilda really understood the character, and it shows. Of course, she isn't perfectly aligned with the book, but lots of things aren't. Oh, and she is nominated for "Best Villain" (or worst, depends how you look at it) for the 2006 MTV movie awards! It is the only Narnia nom, I believe, so vote for her as many times as you can! -> www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/ma06/#/ontv/movieawards/ma06/category.jhtml?categoryId=best_villain&sixUpCellID=3

So, I had this huge long thing about Tilda and then my computer dies. Grr...ha ha ha. I think Tilda Switon was PHENOMONAL as Jadis the White Witch. Yeah, she's supposed to have black hair...but I think what they did with her hair was SO cool! I want the White Witch's hair!! I mean seriously...DREDS!! How much cooler can you get? Ha ha ha. But her performance was SO chilling. It was like straight out of the book. Because she's not supposed to be, you know, Wizard of Oz witch....she's supposed to be like a quiet storm. I mean, she's supposed to be beautiful but have this really scariness to her. And I personally think Tilda really picked up on that. Because kids don't get very scared (I mean, terrified) of someone yelling at them. She wouldn't have had the same affect on Edmund/Skandar if she yelled at him the whole time. I think that quiet coldness is really frightening. And I think they all did a great job. Hmmm...again, I might be a bit biased. She is also one of my favourite characters....evil is attractive. Hee hee hee. But I agree...some of her outfits were a bit bizarre. Her crown, though, was by far the coolest thing ever. (besides her hair) Yay for Tilda!

I thought she didn't look the part, but she acted the part really well. I could see her as the White Witch, and I really felt that she was in keeping with character. I was rather disappointed at the whole blonde-hair thing, though. I have really vivid pictures of how she should look, curtescy of the ilustrations in all copies of The Magician's Nephew my family has. Her wardrobe was certainly interesting - but was that a chain-mail dress in the battle scene? Seriously, does anyone know how impractically heavy that would be? And I thought how she had her hair pulled up and out would give anyone, witch or not, a headache, and hair aches when it's pulled up in an odd direction. Hence I spent quite a bit of time wincing... But I definately thought her definately menacing enough, and she just got the terrible beauty thing spot on...

You know, I forgot to mention that chain mail dress. And well, she isn't human after all. She's a witch. But, personally, I thought it was her coolest outfit. Of all her outfits, that's the one I would have LOVED to wear. ... ;D And the hair thing...yeah, I'm sure it'd give anyone a headache. But I have really ridiculously thick hair, and I always have it pulled up in a bun...so, I'm used to that. No longer get headaches... Ha ha ha.

Along with the chian mail dress, didn't it add a really cool affect to see Aslan's mane that hung from her neck. It took a second viewing of the movie for me to realize it, but I just thought that really "spotlighted" Aslan's side's loss.
She sent chills down my spine, and I was really scared of her sometimes. But as Herenya said, it wasn't really the same Witch as in the book. One of my favorite scenes in the entire movie is when she and Edmund are on the sledge, and when they first meet. Jadis just really looks....sweet. Innocent. Kind. Just, that way she says "You look so cold. Will you come and sit with me?" I found myself thinking, 'Hey, she doesn't look mean at all.' But then you see her turn around, and you see her stone-face. Ohh, and just that last line she says when Edmund climbs off the sledge. "I'm going to miss you." Man, it just sends shivers down my spine.
I think she portrayed the two sides -- or deception is a better word for it -- of the White Witch extremely well.

I was watching it with some friends the other day and asked them if they'd wear it. And they were like, "Wear what?" Ha ha ha...But you know, I don't think it would have looked very good if she had had the black hair. Ha ha ha. Her hair and Aslan's mane looked like they were one. Which gave it even her an even more powerful presence.

I have mixed feelings about Jadis.
She was played exceptionally well by Tilda Swinton, but I found that at first she wasn't very threatening or scary at all. As the movie went on though I found that I was actually begining to dislike her, and when it came to her death I was rather happy. At certain times though I found I had gooseflesh when she talked or did something especially when she asked for Edmund to come sit in the sledge with her. *shivers*

Ah, it's hard to describe how I felt about the Witch. I think I felt that she wasn't evil enough, that she was sort of diluted and average, which of course spoiled the whole thing. But perhaps it's just because my imagination is stronger than the screen.
