I know it sounds silly, but years ago I remember listening to this on cassette and the reader prounounced her name differently to how I do. It really irritated me. So, how do you pronounce her name? Ah-rah-vis, Ar-ay-vis, Aravis, A- ray-vis ... ? *can't think of anymore* And after all of that, I cannot pick which one I say! Oh, well, it will come back to me...

I've always said Ah-rav-iss. Interesting, isn't it, how many different ways people pronounce names from books?

Actually, I don't say "ray" I say something closer to "rah" only not actually "rah", because I'm American, of course.

I am so bad at pronouncing names... in my mind I just pronounce her name "Air-ah-vis"

I hadn't thought of that one! I like it - it sounds a bit more... posh? (I'm not sure if that's the right word ) I say A-ray-vis. I think. Whenever I think about it too much, I get confused.

Being some one with the name Aravis, my family pronounces it Air-uh-vis or Air-ruh-vis
